Rowing Injuries

Lower back injuries make up 53% of rowing related injuries. Over a 12 month period, 2 out of 3 rowers will experience lower back pain, compared to 1 out of 3 in the general population.

Risk factors include:

  • Increased training load

  • Ineffective gym programming

  • Sub-optimal biomechanics set up for boat and ergo

  • Movement dysfunction (stiff joints, tight muscles)

Rowing Injury screening is an effective way of identifying these risk factors for future injury. This, alongside a targeted back and core strengthening program is key in reducing the risk of developing lower back pain in rowers.

In the event of an injury, early intervention is important in order to get back out on the water. To book an appointment call 9245 7007 or email us at admin@horizonphysio.com.au
