Do your shins hurt when you start to run?       Does it feel like a nasty bruise along the side of your shin bone?

If so, chances are you have shin splints. Shin splints occurs when you suddenly increase your level or duration of activity, change surfaces that your train or compete on, have poor foot mechanics or have unsuitable shoes. Usually shin splints feels a bit better once your body is warm during your sporting session, but once you stop the pain can be quite severe. Treatment for this condition may involve a combination of Physiotherapy and Podiatry.  Podiatry appointments will involve close examination of your shoe choices, for both day to day activities and for sports. Your walking pattern will be thoroughly assessed and modifications made as needed.
Usually when caught early it is quickly managed without the need for rest from your chosen sporting activity. The symptoms can vary from patient to patient, but Kylie Gates, our resident Podiatrist can put you on the right treatment path.
